New Research on Early Food Introduction and Food Allergy Prevention

4th November 2025

A new study published in Pediatrics (October 2025) has added to the growing body of evidence supporting early food introduction as a key approach to food allergy prevention in children.

The research, led by clinicians and data scientists from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, analysed large-scale data to explore patterns of food allergy and reinforced what earlier landmark studies, including the LEAP study, have already shown: introducing allergenic foods such as peanut early in life can significantly reduce the risk of developing food allergies.

While the study team did not include contributors from the Allergy Centre of Excellence (ACE), its findings closely reflect the clinical approach and ongoing work of our team, including Professor Gideon Lack, who co-led the original LEAP trial that transformed global understanding of early food introduction.

The importance of timing

The research highlights that delaying the introduction of allergenic foods such as egg or peanut may increase the likelihood of developing an allergy later in childhood. Introducing these foods early and safely under professional guidance, especially in families with a history of allergies, can offer measurable protective benefits.

ACE’s perspective

At ACE, we have long championed early, evidence-based allergy prevention. Our team works closely with families to develop tailored feeding and allergy management plans, ensuring that every child’s introduction to new foods is both safe and supported.

Professor Gideon Lack and our clinical team continue to contribute to the global understanding of food allergy through research, clinical trials and education. This latest publication reinforces the importance of early, informed intervention and reflects the direction modern allergy care is taking: towards prevention as well as treatment.
